The object of the project was to secure the rocky slopes of the castle of Skyros to avoid further landslides and to protect the existing Byzantine monuments of Saint George Chucrch and Episkopi's Temple. The rescue of these monuments was considered necessary because they are a cultural heritage for the island of Skyros.
The tasks performed are the following, the construction of scaffolding, removal of unsafe rocks, application of sprayed concrete mantle, filling of slopes at the base of the slope with concrete or lozenge and lining with stonework, filling of blind gaps of detached rock sections with mortar or concrete, sealing of open and large cracks and filling by injection or mortar, passive anchorages, through which pre-cementation was carried out, fully anchored high-tensile steel mesh, reconstruction of stonework parts of a visible face at specific locations, where it was judged to be unsafe, fill the blind gaps of detached rock sections with mortar or concrete, fully anchored high strength steel mesh.
